Malcolm Boulter
Malcolm Boulter is well known in East Anglia as an accomplished all-round musician, being noted as a tenor soloist, pianist, conductor and composer of all styles of music. He began his musical studies at the N.E.E.T.C.A Colchester, during which time he started his long association with Tiptree & District Choral Society. His studies then continued at the Royal College of Music, London. After gaining his diploma he spent 5 years in Sussex, during which time he sang in the choir of Chichester Cathedral, was a tenor in the vocal group Close Harmony and was Musical Director of Opera ‘70. On his return to Essex he resumed his Directorship of the Tiptree Choral Society, was Musical Director of the Oakwood Arts Centre in Maldon for 6 years, and became well known as a tenor soloist. As a teacher he worked in many local junior and senior schools in the area and composed music for the children to perform.  In 1989 Malcolm was ordained as a minister and inducted into the pastorate of the Congregational Church in South Chingford. Although kept very busy by his pastoral duties he still maintains his links with Essex through the Choral Society and the vocal group The Connoisseurs, of which he is the director. He has led the choir more or less continuously since 1966, conducting them in many extremely successful concerts in East Anglia as well as Wales, France and Switzerland, and has recently celebrated 40 years as Musical Director. He is also in great demand as an entertainer, particularly in London and Essex, as he performs a one-man show consisting of a wide range of vocal music from opera to pop as well as jokes, humorous stories and monologues. He also runs a choir called CongChord based in his church in Chingford. In 2003 he wrote a musical for them called On The Way as part of the church’s centenary celebrations that they recorded and is now available on CD. This has also been performed in many churches around East Anglia.
